Frustrating summer for Newcastle United could be handed boost with club keen on deal

It’s not been the most productive summer window for the Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern and a few of them are fretting over Sunday’s visit of Tottenham Hotspur.

Indeed, many of our resident Geordies don’t believe Rafa Benitez has been backed all too well over the course of the summer and are desperate to see some recruits brought to St. James’ Park between now and the end of the window.

So, reports from the Daily Mirror have cheered them up a bit. They claim the Magpies are one of the clubs keen on Brentford midfielder Jota, along with West Ham United.

Both sides are thought to be ready to make a bid for the 26-year-old Spaniard, who only has one year to run on his deal at Griffin Park. A creative outlet, Benitez is understood to hope the idea of becoming a household name on Tyneside will appeal to the former Celta Vigo star.

He would have played alongside Florian Lejeune, who joined the Toon Army this summer, at Eibar and the notion of his arrival has gone down well amongst our punters.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Creativity was an issue outside of Jonjo Shelvey at St. James’ Park this season, so Jota would be a wonderful addition to Newcastle’s cause.

While the transfer market has proved to be relatively mad this summer, the fact he has just one year left on his deal could play into the Toon’s favour.
