The Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern really don’t want much more injury news.
Indeed, while it’s been a solid enough start to the season for the Geordie contingent propping up our bar, injuries to the likes of Paul Dummett and Florian Lejeune have already annoyed our north East locals.
So, reports from GhanaSoccerNet have proven rather unwelcome today.
They claim Magpies star Christian Atsu will miss out on the chance to captain Ghana in their World Cup qualifier against Uganda due to a calf problem. The winger has largely been a first choice for Rafa Benitez this season and played a big role in the recent draw with Liverpool, though reportedly injured his calf.
Whether or not the former Chelsea man will be available for the Toon’s trip to Southampton remains to be seen, though the idea of seeing a popular player miss out on such an honour has had our Newcastle fans in tonight feeling sorry for the 25-year-old.
It’s a shame for Atsu and an even bigger shame for Newcastle should he miss the Saints game. His battling presence up and down the left flank is a huge part of the Toon’s set-up and Jacob Murphy is still adapting to life in the Premier League.
Would be a big miss.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
