Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are still gutted following the Champions League final but have had a welcome boost with the latest developments coming from Melwood.
Out of nowhere, the Reds announced the signing of Monaco midfielder Fabinho, much to the delight of our local Kopites. Indeed, with the Brazilian on board, our resident Reds are feeling extremely confident about next year.
Emre Can may have featured for the final time in a red shirt in Kiev but now fans have nothing to worry about – Fabinho is the real deal. Valued at £36m by Transfermarkt, the 25-year-old is the exact type of player that Liverpool need. Alongside Naby Keita and potentially Nabil Fekir, Jurgen Klopp will have one of the best midfields in the league.
The Brazilian can play in centre midfield, defensive midfield and right-back, making him an invaluable option on Merseyside. He made 45 appearances in all competition for Monaco last season, netting eight goals. Fabinho made more passes, completed more tackles and won more aerial duels than any of his team-mates according to Squawka.
He will give Liverpool’s defence some much-needed protection and allow Keita and Fekir to flourish ahead of him. The Reds beat Arsenal and Manchester United to his signature and is a real statement of intent to their Premier League rivals.
Liverpool’s summer couldn’t have got off to a better start. Indeed, while the club’s owners – FSG – haven’t always enjoyed the universal support during their time on Merseyside, they’ve certainly backed Klopp.
