Fulham are impressing the Football Transfer Tavern with their summer spending and they are hoping to bring Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates to West London, according to the Daily Mail.
The Uruguayan international has failed to make much of an impact on Merseyside over the past two seasons but is still hoping to make a fist of Premier League football and would jump at the chance of first team competition.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is happy to cut any deadwood from his squad this summer with Jonjo Shelvey and Andy Carroll havign been shown the exit door with Jay Spearing not that far behind them.
Jamie Carragher’s retirement at the end of last season had left a gap open for Coates to step into but the free signing of Kolo Toure from Manchester City has once again knocked the 22-year-old down the pecking order.
Fulham may have to spend as much as £5 million on the centre back who is still highly rated in South America but has a lot to prove in Europe.
If signed by the Cottagers, Coates would be Martin Jol’s fourth signing of the summer after the West Londoners already landed Fernando Amorebieta, Derek Boateng, Maarten Stekelenburg.
Will Fulham manage to prise Coates to Craven Cottage this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
