It’s the staff Christmas party in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening and as the off-duty members of staff get into the festive spirit with some mulled wine and minced pies.
Charles Reynolds from The Independent has arrived in the bar with the latest transfer news about a former tavern favourite.
He explains that Fulham are hopeful of clinching the re-signing of Clint Dempsey on a two-month deal as they look to save their season.
The Craven Cottage side are in serious risk of relegation with Rene Meulensteen’s new side sitting in 19th place with just 13 points from their first 16 matches.
Goals have been in short supply with the London outfit this term and it is thought that the American, who currently plays for Seattle Sounders, could be the answer to their impotent strikeforce.
The 30-year-old was in London yesterday to discuss a short-term deal taking him back to London during the MLS off-season which lasts until March.
It was understood that West Ham, who are also terribly short in attack, were also showing interest in the ex-Spurs attacker but Dempsey would reportedly prefer a return to Craven Cottage, where he had previously spent five-and-a-half years before joining Tottenham in the summer of 2012.
Sounders’ General Manager Adrian Hanauer recently conceded that a loan move for the USA star could be in the pipeline.
He said: “Clint did have something in his contract that would allow him to go on loan for the first couple of months here.
“Obviously the rumours are pretty rampant and I think [a move] is likely, but until it is done, we won’t report it as done. But I do think it is likely.”
