Report: Fulham defender linked with exit
Reports in Spain suggest that Fulham defender Marcelo Djalo could be nearing an exit from Craven Cottage this summer.
Djalo has only featured for Fulham four times since his switch back in 2017 from Spanish outfit Lugo – and his former club appear to be interested in sealing a return for the centre-back, according to La Voz de Galicia.
The report suggests (via Sport Witness) that they are open to bringing Djalo, who spent last season on loan at Extremadura, back to the club – though the defender’s wages may prove to be a stumbling block.
Having only started in two League Cup games and made a couple of substitute appearances in the Championship, the lack of game time that Djalo has been afforded in recent years is also thought to be a concern for his former team.
Djalo only made 13 appearances during his brief loan spell last season back in the Spanish second tier, and has not made a senior outing since December.
La Voz de Galicia has labelled Djalo’s time in England as a ‘failure’, though his time at Lugo in the 2016/17 season may provide some pointers as to why the La Liga 2 side are interested in a reunion with the centre-back.
The Spanish outlet also talks up the centre-back’s ‘physical power and great aerial game’, while Whites blog Fulhamish had cited opposition to Djalo’s traits mixing with the philosophy of then-manager Slavisa Jokanovic’s system upon his arrival – which could explain why things have not worked out for him in West London.
So perhaps Djalo will be more suited to another opportunity at his former club, after being shunned for the vast majority of his time at Craven Cottage.
