Report: Fulham going head-to-head with Barcelona over teenage talent
Reports in Spain suggest that Fulham are among the potential suitors of 15-year-old prospect Jose Antonio Gomez Marquez, who plays for third-tier Spanish outfit Coria.
Estadio Deportivo suggests (via Sport Witness) that Fulham, as well as a host of top-flight Spanish clubs, are interested in bringing in the youngster from the Andalusia-based side, with the Whites said to have offered the teenager the chance to visit the club ahead of a potential move to Craven Cottage.
More commonly known as Joselito, Coria’s youth product has also attracted the interest of Villarreal, Alaves and Real Sociedad – while giants Barcelona have been thought to have sent scouts to assess the potential of the player.
A possible stumbling block in the deal for Fulham could lie in the fact that Joselito is said to be happy at his current club.
Although, despite plenty of clubs appearing to be queuing up for the youngster’s signature, it appears that Fulham are certainly at a more advanced stage of an approach, having sent relevant paperwork in order to further progress with talks.
Signing Joselito would add to the young contingent at Craven Cottage, with teenager Steven Sessegnon among those to have made a first-team breakthrough this season, alongside other first-team newcomers Tyrese Francois and Ben Davis.
Stealing a march on Spanish champions Barcelona may well be something to shout about for Scott Parker should he pull this off – and perhaps the five-time Champions League winners’ interest in Joselito is a sign of the potential that the 15-year-old possesses.
