Fulham fans can’t wait for their first season back in the Premier League to begin.
The Cottagers earned promotion by defeating Aston Villa in the play-off final to cap a wonderful Championship campaign. Slavisa Jokanovic won plenty of praise for his style of play at Craven Cottage, and his side will now get the chance to showcase their talents at the highest level. With a gruelling season ahead, Jokanovic has been active in the transfer market.
Fulham completed a huge £27m deal for Jean Michael Seri, under the noses of Arsenal and Tottenham, which could prove to be one of the signings of the summer. French defender, Maxime le Marchand, also completed a £2m deal from Nice. If Fulham are to survive, more signings are needed.
One man, the Cottagers, should consider signing is former Southampton defender – Jose Fonte. Valued at £1.8m by Transfermarkt, the Portugal international has terminated his contract at Chinese club, Dalian Yifang. Available on a free transfer, Fulham would be wise to bring him to Craven Cottage.
The 34-year-old is a Premier League veteran, and his experience would be crucial in an extremely young squad. Fulham also lack depth at centre-back, and Fonte could prove to be a useful backup option. The former West Ham defender also has experience at international level, starting all four of Portugal’s World Cup fixtures.
While it may not be a signing to get fans off their seat, it could prove to be very smart business.
