Fulham fans will be disappointed at the manner of defeat as the Cottagers were thrashed 5-1 by Arsenal at the weekend.
Slavisa Jokanovic spent heavily in the summer, but his Fulham side are yet to produce the goods on the field. Fulham simply couldn’t handle Arsenal’s attackers with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette causing problems throughout the affair. The result leaves Fulham 17th in the Premier League with their lowest points total ever in a Premier League season after eight games.
With Timothy Fosu-Mensah currently sidelined with an injury, Fulham would be wise to target a right-back when the January transfer window reopens. With the Cottagers struggling defensively, a move for Liverpool defender, Nathaniel Clyne, would be a smart move.
Valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, the former England international has struggled with injury in recent seasons and has slipped down the pecking order at Anfield. His injury allowed Trent Alexander-Arnold to make the right-back role his own and Clyne was overlooked at the weekend with Klopp opting to use Joe Gomez instead. With his route back into the first-team blocked, an exit may be the only move.
Clyne remains a top defender with a vast amount of Premier League experience that could be extremely useful to Jokanovic’s side. With over 170 appearances in the division, he would add some much-needed stability to the back four. Still only 27-years-old, Clyne has many years left at the highest level.
Liverpool are unlikely to command a huge fee for his services given his bit-part role at the club, if he can put his injury troubles behind him, it would be a masterstroke signing.
