‘Future captain’ – Arsenal fans on Twitter react to major club boost despite West Ham stalemate

The Arsenal supporters in the Transfer Tavern have been bitterly disappointed by their team’s recent run of form which has seen them go 3 matches without a victory in the Premier League.

Arsenal travelled across the capital last night to face relegation-threatened West Ham. Their last visit to the London Stadium was a resounding success for The Gunners as they strolled to an emphatic 5-1 victory in December 2016. But The Hammers ensured there would be no repeat of last year’s thrashing, as they defended valiantly to record a 0-0 draw and claim another priceless point in their bid for survival.

Although the resident Gunners propping up the bar were feeling subdued after their side’s performance, there was one positive aspect to take away from the match…

After 18 months without a Premier League start for the club, Jack Wilshere was finally handed a starting berth by Arsene Wenger in the absence of the injured Aaron Ramsey last night.

Wilshere’s performance has been a major talking point amongst the Arsenal fans since the conclusion of proceedings.

The England international has shown glimpses of his ability to dictate play and glide past opponents in recent weeks, but last night represented his first major opportunity to impress under the Premier League spotlight for a very long time.

Judging by the response of the Arsenal fans on Twitter, Wilshere could be set for further opportunities to impress in the coming weeks after his eye-catching performance.

And with the World Cup in Russia firmly in the back of his mind, Wilshere will be hoping to maintain his place in the first-team for the remainder of the season.

Here’s what the supporters had to say about Wilshere’s return…
