‘Future Europa League winner’ – Arsenal fans on Twitter delighted as club hint at boost

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been responding to a picture of Alexandre Lacazette in training tweeted by Arsenal’s official Twitter account. The fans are delighted to see their French striker back in training as his return provides a major boost to the club’s chances of winning the Europa League this season, given the club’s other marquee striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is cup-tied.

Lacazette has scored a modest nine goals in 26 appearances in the Premier League for Arsenal this season and recently missed six weeks action after requiring surgery on a knee injury. Although the return of the striker will be a major boost to the Arsenal fans, it’s hard to see the Gunners turning their season around from this point. The club sit 6th and a whopping 13 points off of the top four as they look destined to finish behind their North London rivals, Tottenham for a second consecutive season.

For the Arsenal fans propping our bar up, it’s not the Premier League which they’re excited to see Lacazette back competing in. Arsenal’s only realistic way of playing Champions League football next season is in the Europa League. Arsene Wenger’s men have already defeated Ostersunds and AC Milan in the knockouts stages of Europe’s second-tier competition and now face CSKA Moscow in the last eight. Whilst you’d struggle to call Arsenal’s current campaign a success, winning the Europa League would definitely put a positive spin on what has otherwise been a shocking year at The Emirates.
