Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are discussing the future of one of their international star’s over a couple of pints, as the race for his signature heats up.
TalkSport states that Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are looking to go head-to-head for the signature of Arsenal winger Joel Campbell, who’s contract expires next summer.
Campbell has been on the fringes of first-team football in North London for a while but has finally begun to make his mark in the past month, following injuries to Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, with the Costa Rican international netting his first goal for the Gunners in a routine win over Swansea City.
However the imminent return of the injured trio will see Campbell’s first-team action decrease significantly once again and a deal could be reached in January, where the 23-year-old is free to discuss a pre-contractual agreement with clubs outside of England.
Arsenal fans in the bar have been impressed with his recent performances but are unsure as to whether he has a future in the first-team, not holding confidence that he can dislodge his competitors in the battle for regular football.
With Arsenal have just over six weeks to sort of Campbell’s contract situation, it seems unlikely that any agreement will be reached before the transfer window reopens.
Arsenal fans, is Campbell good enough? Should he be allowed to leave? Let us know in the comments below!
