Chelsea fans at the Transfer Tavern jukebox are expressing their woes after hearing a number of reports that suggest the end for one of their key defenders.
Chelsea have a strict over-30’s policy, which sees players the wrong side of that wage bracket only offered one-year deals, which has led to players like Michael Ballack and Didier Drogba leaving West London in the past.
Cahill could become the latest victim to fall foul to Chelsea’s policy, with The Times suggesting Chelsea are reluctant to extend Cahill’s deal long-term as they no longer see him as a guaranteed starter due to the rise of Kurt Zouma.
The England international wants to end his career with Chelsea but it seems unlikely to happen, with Cahill now on the verge of entering the final 18 months of his contract with the Premier League giants.
Our fans are concerned by Chelsea’s strong stance in this area, believing the clubs precarious situation means they can not be too strict; otherwise they will face further issues.
Chelsea fans, should Cahill be handed an extended deal? Are Chelsea right to stand by their policy? Let us know in the comments below!
