It appears rivalry does not deter Aston Villa’s Craig Gardner as the midfielder has declared his intentions to join Birmingham.
Villa manager Martin O’Neill himself has admitted that 23 year old Gardner, who has only played three times this season, is seeking the move:
“A number [of clubs] have enquired but there’s been nothing definite. In an ideal world I’d like him to stay but players like to play. He’s one I’d like to keep but it might not be possible. He’s not sure about things, his training has been good but he’s a bit down. I had thoughts of him playing against Blackburn but decided to leave it alone.”
O’Neill who lacks depth in midfield, has been tracking West Ham’s Scott Parker and the £3.5m he gets from the proposed Gardner deal could go some way to financing a deal to bring Parker to Villa Park.
