The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have spent today celebrating their side’s progression into the Carabao Cup final. The Gunners don’t look likely to challenge in the Premier League this season, and so the English domestic cup competition now stands as their most realistic chance of silverware – much to the delight of the Arsenal faithful.
Unfortunately, though, a recent update from German publication Kicker could bring down the mood of our resident Gunners by a few notches.
According to Kicker, Arsenal’s quest to land Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has taken another twist – with the deal now said to have stalled. It is said whilst that Arsenal CEO Ivan Gazidis has submitted a second bid for the striker, it is only ‘marginally’ more than the first bid – and it is still not enough for the club to cash in. As a result, Dortmund are said to be growing frustrated – and there is even a suggestion that a move could be off.
Whilst, certainly, if Arsenal offer the price that has been placed on Aubameyang’s head, they will likely get their man, it doesn’t look like a conclusion is coming imminently. There is also, it seems, a risk that Dortmund could just look to end negotiations – and that would leave Arsenal in a tough spot.
There is certainly a thin line to be crossed, with Arsenal keen to get a good deal on their part whilst also not undervaluing the player.
One thing is certain: it is looking set to be a busy few days for the Gunners. And come February 1st, there is sure to be either a very happy set of Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern – or a very disappointed one.
Aubameyang is clearly available, but always keen to be shrewd, Ivan Gazidis is clearly against paying over-the-odds.
The reality, though, is that if he wants to get his man, he’s going to have to pay big money.
A deal still looks likely, but it’s worrying times for the Gunners.
