Unai Emery had a significant job on his hands at Arsenal, and it’s been even more difficult than most could have imagined. Arsene Wenger had a tough few years towards the end of his tenure, and so succeeding him was always going to be a big task.
Emery has felt firsthand the job ahead of him, owing to Arsenal’s tough start to the season in the Premier League. They’ve lost a couple of big games already, and the games that they have won have been tight, to say the least.
However, Arsenal have got some points on the board, and at this early stage, that is all that matters. Provided that a good base is found, teams can grow, and Emery has certainly built that. The Arsenal boss had made a number of great decisions that could be hugely important as the campaign continues.
With that said, Emery has got these 2 things absolutely right at Arsenal this season…
Faith In Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has had a tough season so far. Everyone knows about his record, but in the Premier League this term, the Gabonese attacker had struggled to find his form.
Three games passed with no goals, and whilst most clubs may have dropped him after such a time period without firing, Emery persisted – and it has paid off.
He scored a crucial goal for the Gunners against Cardiff City, and that could be the boost that he needs to really take his game to the next level.
Arsenal have bags of quality in their offensive ranks, and it would have been easy for Emery to call on someone else – but Aubameyang is his man, and he stuck with him.
Matteo Guendouzi Chances
When Arsenal signed a lowly midfielder from the French second tier, most Arsenal fans likely didn’t bat an eyelid. He was, after a, not a big name signing, and the Gunners needed serious improvement following the departure of Arsene Wenger.
However, after an impressive pre-season, Unai Emery opted to give the midfielder a chance – and it has paid off handsomely.
He’s been a regular so far this season, and he’s looked good. The Gunners have played some big teams so far, and he has looked right at home throughout the campaign.
Given that he’s just 19-years-old, the sky is truly the limit for the talented teenager.
Emery deserves huge praise for not only targeting him, but for giving him the chance that he deserves, too.
