German right back Philipp Lahm has become the number one target for Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti as he looks to increase the quality at the club to ensure Premier League success once more this season.
Lahm has been at Bayern Munich since the tender age of 11 and despite enjoying a host of success in those years with countless domestic honours, the recent decline of Germany’s top club has left the former Stuttgart loanee pondering the possibility of starting a new challenge somewhere else, with the Premier League a likely destination.
While unrest in the Bayern camp in recent weeks has seemingly unsettled a number of players, boss Louis Van Gaal is desperate to keep the experienced right back at any cost and it is believed if Chelsea are to bring Lahm to West London it will take a bid in the region of £25 million to secure his services.
Despite the solid performances of Serbian Branislav Ivanovic so far this season, Ancelotti is looking to bring in a world class right back to improve the defensive set up at the Blues and the Italian, who is a big admirer of the German international, see’s the 26 year old as an ideal candidate.
If a potential transfer could be agreed in the coming transfer window, the addition of Lahm to the Blues squad would be one to certainly elevate the overall quality which they possess as not only can the defender play in the right back slot, he can only perform admirably on the left and in a winger role in midfield, making him a great addition to an already impressive Chelsea line up.
