‘Gerrard-esque’, ‘Future captain’ – Liverpool fans hail star’s performance on Twitter following Man City victory

The Red faithful were celebrating long into the night in the Transfer Tavern last night after they watched their side record a stunning victory over Manchester City.

Manchester City’s hopes and dreams of going unbeaten this season were firmly put to rest yesterday afternoon by an electric Liverpool side. As they so often are against Man City at Anfield, Liverpool were quick out the blocks and drew first blood in the 9th minute courtesy of an exquisitely placed strike from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. City hit back with a deserved equaliser shortly before the interval after Leroy Sane powered a left-footed strike through the hands of Karius who was preferred to Simon Mignolet in goal.

The game truly exploded into life in the second-half, as Liverpool scored three goals in 8 minutes to open up a 4-1 lead in the blink of an eye and seemingly put the game beyond City.

However, Guardiola’s side fought until the final kick of the game as they pulled 2 goals back and almost scored an incredible equaliser in the dying seconds of the game, but Aguero put his diving header marginally wide of the post.

Naturally, the resident Kopites in the tavern were beyond ecstatic with the quality of their side’s performance.

There were plenty of praiseworthy performances in Liverpool red yesterday, but it was Oxlade-Chamberlain who came in for the highest level of praise by the supporters on Twitter.

The England international has been improving with every passing week at Liverpool, and his performance yesterday has encouraged plenty of supporters to compare him with the great Steven Gerrard for his dominating display in central-midfield.

Here’s what the Liverpool fans had to say about the performance of Oxlade-Chamberlain yesterday…
