Liverpool fans have been downbeat in the Football Transfer Tavern for weeks, having witnessed last seasons’ runners-up make a nightmare start to the 2014/15 season.
The Reds have won just four of their opening 11 Premier League matches, as well as suffering three consecutive Champions League group defeats.
That has left manager Brendan Rodgers under pressure according to reports, with owner John W. Henry reportedly unhappy with the quality of the transfers brought in during the summer.
Lazar Markovic, Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli arrived for a combined total of £60 million and have shown little to nothing to suggest they have what it takes to help the Reds out of their current slump.
There have been flashes but little more from the likes of Javi Manquillo, Alberto Moreno, Adam Lallana and Emre Can, whilst Divock Origi will be in France with Lille until next summer.
Whilst there are reports suggesting that Rodgers is under pressure, plenty also claim the Liverpool manager will be given time to turn things around at Anfield, with the January transfer window the time to continue the rebuilding process.
But many of these reports – the likes of which claim Steven Gerrard could be on his way to Manchester City this winter – seem a little farfetched to say the least.
Here, we have identified five transfer rumours we simply can’t see happening this January.
