‘Give that man a contract’, ‘Please be true’ – Liverpool fans desperately hoping for midfielder agreement on Twitter

The Liverpool fans have been in a buoyant mood in the Transfer Tavern since their huge victory over Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp’s side continued their excellent record against Man City at Anfield with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Pep Guardiola’s previously unbeaten side. Prior to the weekend, City hadn’t tasted defeat in the Premier League since they lost 2-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in April 2017. It needed a special performance to stop the rampant City side, and Liverpool duly delivered what was needed to finally end their unbelievable run.

There were many standout performances in Liverpool red, but the display of their central midfield trio  Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Georginio Wijnaldum and Emre Can was particularly noteworthy.

Can played in a holding midfield role whilst Wijnaldum and Chamberlain aimed to push further forward on the break, and he did brilliantly to prevent the likes of Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne from influencing proceedings in the final-third of the pitch.

Since their club’s victory over City, the Liverpool supporters have been calling for the German international to sign a new contract at the club, as concerns intensify over his current deal which expires in the summer.

Although Can has consistently divided opinion amongst The Reds faithful, it seems that plenty of supporters would be distraught to see him leave Merseyside at the end of the season.

Here’s what the fans had to say about Emre Can’s contract situation since Liverpool’s weekend victory…
