The Liverpool supporters in the Transfer Tavern were once again bemoaning their side’s defensive abilities and lack of consistency this weekend after they suffered a shock 3-2 defeat against West Bromwich Albion at Anfield.
The mood amongst the Liverpool supporters has taken a dramatic downturn in the last week as their sides’s results have further reinforced the notion that The Reds defensive line-up lacks the quality that is required to compete for silverware. It looked as if Liverpool had turned a corner in their development two weeks ago after they became the first side to defeat Man City in the Premier League this season.
However, back to back defeats from their following 2 games have firmly disproved that opinion. Alan Pardew’s travelling Baggies outfit highlighted the glaring frailties that continue to plague Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side on Saturday evening, as a brace from Jay Rodriguez and an own goal from Joel Matip sent them through to the 5th round of the competition at Liverpool’s expense.
Unsurprisingly, rumours regarding the signing of a new goalkeeper have intensified since Liverpool’s defeat. Simon Mignolet and Lorius Karius have consistently failed to convince either Klopp or the supporters that they are good enough to wear the number one shirt at Liverpool, and now the fans are beginning to demand the acquisition of a new stopper on Twitter.
One of the major targets to emerge as a potential candidate to solve Liverpool’s goalkeeping crisis is Roma’s Brazilian talent Alisson, and according to The Daily Mirror, Klopp is pursuing the man who is valued at £44 million by the Italian giants.
The reports have stirred up plenty of interest from The Reds faithful on Twitter who have turned out in their numbers to urge Klopp to make Alisson the clubs second signing of the mid-season window.
Here’s what the supporters had to say about the potential of signing Alisson this month…
Klopp needs to make signings now. Get Lemar now, push for a move for Alisson in January instead of giving Karius a chance and waiting till the summer. If this carries on and we fail to get top 4, why would players like Mo Salah want to stay when they can go to Madrid.

Alisson, Lemar and Ndidi would make us a real force. Once again, we're only a few players away.

I would sell my soul to sign Fabinho, Lemar and Alisson in the next 3 days. #LFC

I would love to see Alisson at Liverpool. The ideal scenario would be to see Mignolet going in the opposite direction as part of the deal.

Paul Joyce confirmed that Klopp wanted a new goalkeeper (Alisson) and apparently Alisson is available for £44m. You’ve got to pay that in today’s market, you just have to.
