‘Gone in the summer’ – Chelsea fans on Twitter react as Conte drops defender line

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to Antonio Conte’s comments on David Luiz as the Italian claimed that Luiz is still suffering from a knee injury but that the 31-year-old is targetting a first-team return before the end of the season. Luiz last featured in the 4-1 loss at home to Watford in early February but has since been sidelined with injury.

Chelsea’s fixture against Swansea tomorrow has come too early for the Brazilian. The Blues travel to The Liberty Stadium tomorrow in the Premier League’s late kick-off as they aim to claw the gap between themselves and Tottenham back to just two points, although Spurs will be able to regain their five-point cushion when they face Watford on Monday evening.

David Luiz has played minimal football this season at Chelsea, despite being one of Conte’s most consistent performers last season when they won the Premier League at a canter. Instead, Thomas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger have been preferred to the Brazilia at the heart of the Chelsea defence alongside the always outstanding Cesar Azplilicueta. It’s unlikely that Luiz will still have a future at Stamford Bridge after this summer, although fans will be hoping to catch a glimpse of him in a Chelsea shirt one more time before the season’s out.
