Good news for Arsenal ahead of curtain raiser against Chelsea

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are fearing the worst ahead of their side’s clash against Chelsea…

The Gunners have had a very mixed pre-season, and their 3-0 defeat against Chelsea over the summer has raised concern, particularly with the two side’s set to face off in the annual curtain raiser – the Community Shield.

However, Arsene Wenger has received a boost ahead of the game in the form of Alexis Sanchez’s return to training – with the Guardian revealing that he has a chance of featuring against the Blues at the weekend.

Arsenal have also confirmed his return, taking to Twitter to post an image of the Chilean.

This, of course, comes off of the back of a recent picture posted by Sanchez on social media revealing that he was suffering from an illness, though the beaming smile on his face in training certainly suggests that he has gotten over that.

Of course, his return would come as a huge boost for the Gunners given how crucial he has been in recent years. A consistent figure in the Arsenal attack, uncertainty regarding his future has done little to affect his form over the last year.

Landlord’s Verdict

Given that Sanchez has not featured for the Gunners all summer, it is unlikely that Wenger will start him against the Blues. He will be short on fitness, whilst the likes of Alex Iwobi and Mesut Ozil certainly deserve a chance to impress after a strong summer from the pair.

However, a role from the bench could be very useful for the Gunners, with Sanchez able to come on and make an impact for the last 20 minutes if need be. Indeed, this would probably help his fitness in the long run, and so Wenger could well take up this option.

In contrast, Chelsea will be concerned about his return given his fine form, but Antonio Conte will be feeling confident nonetheless.
