Safe to say, it’s been a pretty good few months for the Gunners…
The mood amongst the fans in the Transfer Tavern couldn’t have been worse at the end of last season, with the Gunners seemingly in the midst of a crisis. With a number of underperforming players and a manager facing an uncertain future – things were not looking good.
This season, though, it’s all looking much better. Arsene Wenger has committed and with a couple of major signings through the door, the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting a real title challenge this season.
Standing in their way in that regard is Stoke City – the Gunners next Premier League opponent. It’ll be a tough test, but the prospect of the game has been made far easier after Arsenal received some good news ahead of the clash.
As per Ben Dinnery on Twitter, Per Mertesacker is available for the game, whilst Gabriel could also be in contention – meaning that Wenger will have more options in the defence.

Whilst Mertesacker is no Alexis Sanchez, his presence on the field is still important, and the fans in the Transfer Tavern have been impressed with his form over the last few months.
Mertesacker has proven his worth as a solid member of Arsenal’s new-look five man defence, and so Wenger should continue to utilise him.
Stoke are a strong, physical side, and so the German is the perfect counter to that.
