The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their side to hold on to a few key players this summer, and according to El Bernabeu, they have received a boost in that regard…
El Bernabeu are reporting that Real Madrid have moved on from the prospect of signing both Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois this summer, with Los Blancos now apparently instead looking at other targets, including Man Utd goalkeeper David De Gea.
For the Chelsea fans in the pub, this is the best news that they could have heard. Keeping hold of a duo as important as Courtois and Hazard is far more important than any prospective purchase this summer, and so the Blues will be feeling good ahead of the FA Cup final this weekend. Real Madrid are, of course, one of Europe’s best sides, and so they are often a very difficult side to resist, and so it seems likely that if they had continued to pursue the players, it wouldn’t have ended well for the Blues.
Antonio Conte will be expected to improve on his first season next year, and that feat will be made far easier by the retention of Courtois and Hazard. Real Madrid could, of course, change their minds – but the Italian will likely be relieved that, at least for now, he can rest easy.
Courtois had a stellar season, picking up the Golden Glove award, whilst Eden Hazard returned to fine form in front of goal after a poor 2015/16 campaign.
