Good news for Conte despite rejection, record-breaking deal could still happen

The Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are finally slowing their title celebrations, just in time for things to get going in terms of summer business.

Blues manager Antonio Conte, having claimed the Premier League in his first season in charge, is now targeting success on the European stage but will have to build a squad capable of competing both at home and on the continent.

With that in mind, reports from that Daily Mail are claiming that the champions are in talks over deal for Juventus left-back Alex Sandro, and have had an offer of £55.2m rejected.

While the news of the snubbed bid has not gone down too well amongst the punters here in the Tavern, who all think that despite Marcos Alonso’s strong season in the position that depth is definitely needed, there is still some good news.

According to the Mail, the Italian champions will allow the Brazilian international to leave Turin this summer if he so wishes, meaning there is hope for Conte yet.

Should a deal be agreed, the fee would break the record for the most expensive defender set when the Blues sold David Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain for £50m.

Chelsea fans, we want to hear from you! Do you need depth and competition in this position or should there be higher priorities? Let us know…
