Good News For Gooners, Comolli Will Have To Act Fast To Beat Villans To New Goalie

Sources in France and now beyond are suggesting that Damien Comolli has scouted and is genuinely preparing the deal which will bring Rennes Goalie Nicolas Douchez to Anfield this summer.

The 30 year old was in action on Sunday – unfortunately conceding two goals as it happened – in a defeat to Brest in Ligue 1.

The Frenchman is a quality player nevertheless and it is likely that his availability will not go entirely unnoticed. Aston Villa have been looking for new keeper since 1993 and Douchez would fit the bill for the Villans both in terms of ability and cost. A potentially fascinating free transfer, but who will be the lucky recipients?

The underlying story here is where does Reina go? Highbury legend Bob Wilson a few weeks back inadvertently spilled the beans in a radio interview that Arsene Wenger’s absolute number one transfer target was Pepe Reina. Could this mean that the Gunner’s coach is finally going to tackle one of his major headaches head on at last?

And birthday wishes to Jens Lehmann from Essen who is 62 years young today.
