Good news for Guardiola: Man City handed potential injury boost ahead of key run of fixtures

The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are viewing the months of February and March as the defining period their side’s campaign. It’s been an easy season, relatively speaking, for the Citizens so far – with their quest to secure the Premier League title going by without much of a hitch thus far.

However, they’ve got some big fixtures ahead of them. They’re set to return to the Champions League next week, whilst the Carabao Cup follows less than two weeks later. Thereafter, they’re facing both Arsenal and Chelsea in early March.

Clearly, then, a lot could be riding on the next month or two, and so a recent report from the Daily Mail will come as good news for the Citizens.

According to the Daily Mail, Leroy Sane has been involved in some form of training at the Etihad – despite fears that he could be out of action for an extended period of time after suffering an injury against Cardiff in the FA Cup.

Whilst an imminent return is not being reported, the fact that he was involved in training in some way would suggest that a first-team return is on the horizon, even if it isn’t expected over the next week or two. This revelation is revealed alongside news of the returns of both Phil Foden and John Stones to first-team training.

It was confirmed by Man City late in January that he had sustained ligament damage, and that is normally followed by an extended spell on the sidelines. That could, certainly, still be the case, but the early signs are encouraging.

If nothing else, his return to training in some form could suggest that a full training return could come in a matter of weeks, rather than months – and that’s huge for the Citizens. Even if he can get back for early March, he could still have a crucial role in Man City’s hunt for a solid end to the season.

Landlord’s Verdict

Leroy Sane has been one of Man City’s best players this season, and so they’ll want him back as soon as possible.

In truth, you would think that he is unlikely to feature in February, despite the images, but nonetheless, this is great news for Pep Guardiola. He’s clearly on the highway on his road to recovery, and so that’s a massive bonus.

Perhaps a March return could be on the horizon.
