Good news for Man Utd as Mourinho closes in on big deal for 28-year-old ace

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern think that their midfield needs some upgrading this summer…

Paul Pogba had a strong first season back in England, whilst Ander Herrera enjoyed a breakout campaign, but their is no denying that the Man Utd defence is lacking balance at present.

Michael Carrick was frequently brought into the fold last year in order to counteract Herrera and Pogba’s offensive prowess with defensive solidity, but at 35-years-old, the Englishman isn’t exactly a long-term solution for Jose Mourinho.

This is something that the Portuguese is looking to change this summer, it seems, with the Guardian reporting that the Red Devils are closing in on a deal for Chelsea midfield ace Nemanja Matic. It is noted that Matic has agreed terms over a move, whilst the two clubs have also come to an agreement regarding a fee – leaving the completion of this deal looking like a mere formality.

Matic would certainly add the extra determination and aggression that the Man Utd midfield has lacked as of late, with the Serbian proving vitally important to Chelsea during their recent title success. Rotated with Cesc Fabregas, Matic added a real defensive edge, and the Red Devils would be a far greater side with him involved.

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern don’t want him to leave, though, and are hoping that Conte has a change of heart.
