Manchester City supporters continue to make all the noise in the Transfer Tavern this season after seeing their side win for a tenth time in succession in the Premier League with a 2-0 success over Leicester City on Saturday.
Pep Guardiola’s men took an eight-point lead at the summit of the division into the international break to underline their superiority in English football’s top-flight, and their relentless march to the title continued at the weekend with a comfortable victory at the King Power Stadium. Goals either side of half time from Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne secured a 2-0 victory for the Citizens to register a tenth consecutive Premier League victory, meaning that they have dropped just two points (1-1 draw with Everton) from their opening 12 league matches.
Subsequently, there are many delighted City fans in the Tavern at the moment, and the good news just keeps on coming if a recent report from Don Balon is anything to go by, which suggests that Riyad Mahrez is a possible target for Guardiola in the upcoming January transfer window.
The Leicester winger played an integral part in the Foxes’ incredible Premier League title success back in 2015/16, scoring 17 goals and laying on ten assists to help Claudio Ranieri’s side achieve the impossible, although he was unable to back that up last term with just six goals and four assists as the Midlands club struggled in their title defence.
However, there have been signs that the Algeria international could be on his way back to his best with two goals and five assists in just 12 Premier League appearances, and as such he is reportedly attracting the interest of Guardiola and Man City ahead of the January transfer window.
But whether the league leaders do indeed go in for the 26-year-old wing wizard very much remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: Although Riyad Mahrez didn’t enjoy his best season last time out, there’s no doubting his quality after seeing how incredible he was in helping Leicester City win the Premier League back in 2015/16.
And with two goals and five assists already this term, the 26-year-old could be on his way back to his best, which spells both good and bad news for the Foxes – the good news being that they’ll surely win more matches, the bad news being that he is bound to attract interest.
And that seems to have already begun given that Manchester City are reportedly after the Algeria international, with manager Pep Guardiola eyeing up further reinforcements to their already frightening front line.
Whether City need Mahrez remains to be seen, but were they to do a deal for the 26-year-old in January, they would take some stopping in the second half of the campaign.
