The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to Antonio Conte’s comments in his final pre-game press conference of the season. The Italian claimed that last season the Blues won the Premier League despite finishing 10th the previous year, so the fans shouldn’t panic ahead of next season despite the fact they look set to finish 5th this year.
Conte says that Chelsea last season managed to win the league having finished 10th the previous year, so there can be success again even if we finish fifth this time around. #NEWCHE

The Chelsea fans propping our bar up aren’t happy with their Italian gaffer. Conte last season was a completely different manager to what’s been this year. Chelsea won the league last season and every goal was celebrated like a cup final-winning goal by the manager, who now looks to have lost his passion on the touchline. The lack of passion and the poor form on the pitch has led to the fans doubting the former Italy and Juventus man, despite his heroics in his first season.
The major blow to the fans this season is that they’re looking increasingly likely to miss out on Champions League football. Having a seat at the top table in European football is a must for the top Premier League clubs, however, the last time Chelsea failed to secure Champions League football they won the league in that season, which means Conte might have a point. Despite that, the fans don’t want him to stick around to find out if he’s capable of winning the league again, as they’re happy to cut their losses and bring in a new man.

What is this? We supposed to be going from one level to another not one season up one season down. What mediocrity are you promoting here exactly?

Does the team needs to have a bad season before success could be recorded the following season?
