Grass is greener: Dominic Solanke has no excuse not to force exit from Anfield struggle

It’s been far from the ideal spell at Liverpool for Dominic Solanke. His move from Chelsea has done little to fire his career into the mainstream, and it’s showing little sign of changing.

He must be looking at players like Jadon Sancho, who has gone abroad and really developed and made a name for himself, then, and be regretting his decision to move to Merseyside.

Fortunately for him, he still has time on his side to make that a reality. At this point, Solanke has no excuse but to consider a Liverpool exit, and a move abroad could really help him out.

After all, he is a natural goalscorer; but he just hasn’t been given the chance to show that. During his time at the Chelsea academy, he was a regular scorer and he was crucial to their teams that were often hugely successful. Minutes, though, have been few and far between at Anfield, and it’s always tough to make an impact when you get one start every few months or 25 minutes here and there.

To put it into context, he was, at the very least, on the same level as Tammy Abraham at Chelsea, if not even better, and Abraham has made an impact at Premier League level already.

Not to mention, the return of Daniel Sturridge has changed the prospect of Solanke forcing his way into the plans of Jurgen Klopp, and he now finds himself way down the pecking order at Anfield. He’s yet to make a single league appearance this season, and that tells the whole story.

The reality is that, at 21-years-old, he’s running out of time to make it at the highest level, and if he doesn’t take the plunge and move now, he might never get another chance.
