The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern watched on yesterday as their first signing under Unai Emery played his first competitive game since signing. Whilst it wasn’t for Arsenal, the fans were still delighted with Stephan Lichtsteiner as he helped keep both Marcelo and Neymar quiet down the Swiss right-hand side in his country’s 1-1 draw against Brazil.
Arsenal fans have been left frustrated on a number of occasions over the last 12 months as they’ve conceded more than a few sloppy goals. Some of the club’s prime suspects in defence have been Shkodran Mustafi and Hector Bellerin but now with Lichtsteiner at the club, Emery will have a more reliable defensive option on the right of the Arsenal defence as the club will be aiming to tighten up their defence next season.
The Gunners shipped 51 goals last season giving them the 12th leakiest defence in the Premier League. That doesn’t sound too bad, but when you consider that this is a club who should be competing for the top-four as a minimum, to concede at more than a rate of a goal a game is poor from the North London club. With the experienced Switzerland defender, Lichtsteiner, in the squad this season though, the fans can expect to see Petr Cech picking the ball out of his net a lot less this season.

Lichtsteiner off with cramps. Done an excellent job keeping Neymar quiet.

As you can see, the Arsenal fans in the Tavern are delighted with Lichtsteiner and will be excited to see him at The Emirates next season.
