Arsenal’s summer business has been great so far and it looks like the club aren’t finished just yet.
Arsenal have signed Stephan Lichsteiner and Sokratis Popastathopoulos as Unai Emery has sought to strengthen the Gunners at the back. With both those additions, Arsenal may finally have a back four that can stand up to severe attacking pressure and stop leaking easy goals.
Unai Emery is done there though and according to Turkish news outlet Milliyet, the Gunners are the latest club to register an interest in Croatia international, Domagoj Vida.
A part of Croatia’s superb World Cup campaign, Vida was one of the better performers in the team and was a major reason why they reached the final.
Vida has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer and has also attracted interest from West Ham and Everton. Besiktas are thought to be keen to cash in on the player following his impressive World Cup campaign and are holding out for a fee around £26 million. The Turkish club have rejected two bids from Liverpool already and seem to be aggravating a bidding war for the defender.
Although Arsenal will face competition for his signature, signing the defender would be a great business.
Mustafi has been anything but convincing since he came to the club and if anything, his performances have gradually deteriorated. While many thought the defender could be Laurent Koscielny’s long-term partner, the German international’s continuous knee-jerk defending has cost Arsenal on multiple occasions. It’s a cheap and low-risk move but Arsenal should sign Vida and ship off Mustafi.
