Great for Tottenham: Pochettino receives big injury boost ahead of key fixture run

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are still celebrating their side’s dominant mid-week win on Wednesday. It’s been a tough old season for the Lilywhites, with mixed form continuing to plague¬†Pochettino’s men, but it’s clear that they’re a side on the up.

In truth, they outplayed Man Utd on Wednesday, and they deserve all the credit that has been thrown their way over the last few days.

Fortunately for Tottenham, though, even more good news has emerged today. As per the official Tottenham Twitter, the duo of Harry Winks and Serge Aurier have returned to full training.

This is massive news for Mauricio Pochettino, as both players are crucial to his plans.

Harry Winks hasn’t played since Boxing Day, whilst Serge Aurier hasn’t been able to get going yet at Spurs having suffered a couple of injuries.

The status of the former, in particular, is likely to delight fans, with the club really missing the English midfielder over the last few weeks. Nobody provides quite as much creativity and poise, other than Mousa Dembele, and so his return will be welcomed with open arms.

Whether they’re fit to feature against Liverpool on Sunday remains to be seen, but with the return of the Champions League on the horizon, Winks and Aurier are clearly on the highway on their road to recovery.

Landlord’s Verdict

This is huge for Tottenham.

Pochettino doesn’t have the biggest squad from which to choose, and so any additional players that he can get a hold of will be important.

Aurier is arguably Tottenham’s best right-back, and so his return is significant in more ways than one, whilst Winks will provide some invaluable quality through the midfield.

Good news all round for Spurs.
