Great news for Mourinho as £45m-rated midfielder would reportedly be open to Man Utd move

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting Jose Mourinho to continue his spending spree throughout his tenure as manager. The Portuguese’s run so far has been one of familiarity, with big players coming in every summer. From Paul Pogba to Romelu Lukaku, there’s no doubting that players are attracted to playing for the club, and that is something that is only going to be beneficial for Mourinho as he looks to improve his side even more.

It appears as though this attraction is tempting another top player, too, with Manchester Evening News reporting that Mesut Ozil could be up for a move to Old Trafford. Citing sources close to the player, according to Manchester Evening News, Man Utd are one of just three clubs that the German would be willing to move to.

Ozil’s current deal at Arsenal, of course, ends at the conclusion of the season, and so a move in January or, indeed, a free switch next summer, could be on the cards for the German. Either way, a move certainly makes financial sense for the Red Devils. He’s rated at £45 million by Transfer Markt, but a move could be found for considerably less given his current contractual situation.

Mourinho and Ozil are well versed with one another owing back to their time together at Real Madrid, and so beyond the simple attraction of Man Utd, a reunion with the Portuguese could also be very tempting.

On any ordinary case, a move from Arsenal and Man Utd is unlikely given the relationship between the two clubs, but Arsenal may be powerless to resist this one. If he doesn’t sign a new deal, he could very well be turning out against his current side next season.

With over half a season to go, though, anything could happen.

Landlord’s Verdict

A move to Manchester could be attractive for Ozil. Linking up with Mourinho is one thing, but he may also be keen to stay in the Premier League, and whilst another English top flight side might be interested in him, it remains to be seen whether he would be as interested in them.

Either way, this news puts Arsenal in a very bad situation, despite their reported hope that he could sign a new deal. There’s definitely a chance of this happening
