The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern have been very impressed with Phil Jones this season. The Englishman was expected to depart the club this year before a stellar run of performances last term brought him back on side. His fine form has continued this season, with the Englishman forming a fantastic part of an increasingly solid backline for the Red Devils. At this point, he’s practically undroppable when he is fit.
It was a major concern for the club, then, when he was forced off over the weekend with an injury. Victor Lindelof replaced the Englishman, and he proved once again that he is simply not good enough to play for the club in the English top flight quite yet. The fans in the pub have spent the last few days, then, hoping that Jones would be able to return imminently, and it seems as though they’ve got their wish.
According to injury expert Ben Dinnery on Twitter, Jones could feature for the Red Devils this evening against Swansea City, with the Englishman having made a rapid recovery over the last day or two.

This is a big boost for the Red Devils, particularly in the context of the season. The Carabao Cup is one thing, but Jose Mourinho’s men need to put in a good performance against Tottenham this weekend, and so Jones’ availability is vitally important ahead of that game. The thought of Lindelof coming up against Harry Kane is enough to give the fans in the pub a few nightmares.
It remains to be seen whether the Englishman will start this evening, but he could be involved in some form, and he looks set to be available for the weekend.
Jones has been one of Man Utd’s standout players this season, and in the context of the wider campaign, his return is absolutely vital.
Man Utd’s defence is an area of concern, and Jones undoubtedly makes the backline more solid.
