The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern have been impressed with the fine form of Marouane Fellaini this season…
The Belgian, though not a particularly popular player amongst supporters, has featured fairly heavily under Jose Mourinho since the Portuguese moved to Old Trafford.
Lacking the flair of a Paul Pogba and the finishing of a Romelu Lukaku, Fellaini’s job has very few thrills, but he has proven his importance under his manager this season. Solid defensively and a real threat in the air, he’s a player that teams find tough to deal with.
Unsurprisingly, then, he’s a player that the club want to keep around, and if Transfer Market Web is anything to go by, he’s going to remain an Old Trafford player for some time yet.
According to Transfer Market Web, Man Utd are set to tie the Belgian down to a new deal at Old Trafford, with terms reportedly agreed between the two parties.
Described as a ‘big time’ deal, no further details are disclosed, and so at present, the salary and length of the prospective contract remain unclear.
It’s safe to assume that an extension to the length of his current agreement is included, given that his current deal ends in the summer of 2018.
Jose Mourinho is likely to be delighted about this, with the Belgian clearly a favourite of the manager. Mourinho typically prefers robust, strong and dedicated players as opposed to quick, technical figures as he looks to build his teams, and so it’s no surprise that Fellaini has been so key. He’s previously discussed how important the Belgian is to his team, as reported by the Manchester Evening News, and so he will be delighted.
He’s an unspectacular player, but Fellaini is a solid option for the club.
Though he’s not going to score 20 goals a year, he always comes through with a solid performance when it’s needed, and he’s become one of Mourinho’s go-to men.
This is a solid decision should the deal go through. That is looking increasingly likely to be the case, with the Sun also reporting that a deal is close.
