The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their side to sign a forward this summer…
Though not through a lack of trying, the Hammers have really struggled to find a reliable number 9 in recent years, and it seems as though their search could lead them across London this summer.
West Ham have had a long-standing interest in Michy Batshuayi, stretching back to last summer, and whilst Chelsea won the race for the Belgian, the Hammers could look to make their move once again, according to the Evening Standard. They have received a big boost in that regard, too, with the Evening Standard now reporting that Batshuayi is open to leaving the club on loan this summer in search of first-team football.
It has been a season to forget for Batshuayi, as whilst he picked up a Premier League winners medal, the Belgian rarely featured for the Blues – only making his first Premier League start at the end of the campaign.
For West Ham, this is certainly a huge boost, with there no doubts about the quality of the Belgian. It hasn’t quite happened for him in London yet, but that boils down to a lack of opportunities more than anything else. Bilic would surely be willing to afford him a more regular chance in the first team, and whilst a loan would leave them in the cold once again next summer, our landlord is convinced that Batshuayi is better than any other option that they could land on a more permanent basis this summer.
