The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to a story in The Daily Mail that claims Wayne Rooney is eyeing up a sensational move to Washington to play for DC United. The Manchester United legend returned to his home club last summer but could be on the move again in summer as the 32-year-old likely only has one contract left in him.

Rooney has broken a number of incredible records in his time. The forward is both Manchester United’s and England’s all-time top scorer and comes in second on the Premier League’s list of goalscorers with an unbelievable 208 strikes in England’s top flight, only 52 goals behind the division’s record goalscorer Alan Shearer. Rooney could join a host of ex-teammates in America. Bastian Schweinsteiger and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have both taken up life in the US and Rooney could be set to join them.
Whilst there’s no questioning the pulling power of the MLS for an ageing forward like Rooney, it’s fair to say the striker still has a career in the Premier League. Rooney is Everton’s top goalscorer this season with ten goals in his 31 appearances for the club, three more than Everton’s next highest scorer, Oumar Niasse. Everton are in desperate need of a clinical goalscorer after selling Romelu Lukaku last year and if Rooney is to leave, they could put his wages and transfer fee towards a new prolific frontman.
