The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for Pep Guardiola to wrap up a deal for Riyad Mahrez quickly. The Citizens must invest wisely this summer if they are to have the best chance of retaining their Premier League title, and the Algerian attacker would certainly be a good start given his recent form.
Fortunately, according to the Guardian, the Citizens are eager to get that deal done, but it’s not going to come cheaply. A move that could exceed £75 million is apparently what Leicester City are demanding, and it remains to be seen as to whether the Citizens will comply.
However, despite the uncertainty surrounding this deal, Guardiola is also apparently looking at other targets. The Guardian report that the Spaniard also wants improvement in the heart of the midfield – and he has apparently made Napoli midfielder Jorginho his number one target.
Clearly, Man City are eager to make a significant splash this summer – and that’s just what they need to do. An early start, in particular, is important.
Everyone knows what Mahrez can do. The 27-year-old is a tricky offensive magician that always has a trick up his sleeve, and he’d add to what is already a deadly attack.
In Jorginho, the Citizens would find somewhat of a more robust option – with breaking up play, tackling, and running also key to his playstyle.
Whilst good news, this isn’t likely what Man City fans are looking for. In truth, this update simply offers more questions for fans – with no further indication of whether a deal for Mahrez is likely or, indeed, if a move for Jorginho will come.
Still, it will be encouraging to hear that several major moves are at the very least being considered.
