The second-half of the season is likely to be very exciting for the Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern. They’re still on course for a Premier League title win, and it’s fair to say that they’re seemingly getting better with every passing game.
Pep Guardiola, though, seemingly still isn’t completely happy with his squad – at least according to ESPN. ESPN are reporting that Man City are considering making a move for Atletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte, who has long caught the attention of Guardiola.
One of Europe’s brightest young talents, the French star has impressed in Spain over the last few years, and it’s easy to see why.
Providing fantastic defending, youthful exuberance and a strong aerial presence, Laporte ticks all the boxes, and at just 23-years-old, the Frenchman is sure to get even better over the coming years.
Pep Guardiola has often shown a preference for exciting young talent over the last few years, and it’s fair to say that Laporte would fall under that banner. That said, whilst he’s still young, he’s proven his quality as a top-tier defender in Spain – and a move to the Premier League would be a natural step for the centre-half.
Laporte’s not quite the finished article, but that’s just what Man City need right now. With the likes of John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi proven as solid Premier League-level defenders, Laporte could look to learn from them and slowly adjust to life at the Etihad – allowing him to maximise his potential.
That said, a move isn’t going to be easy for Man City. Bilbao certainly won’t want to let him go, especially on the cheap, and so the Citizens will only be able to secure his signature if they spend big.
