The Manchester City fans who are gathered at the bar in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing reports that the club are interested in bringing a new centre back pairing to the club for next season.
The Manchester Evening News is reporting that Pep Guardiola wants to bring both John Stones and Aymeric Laporte to the Etihad Stadium this summer.
Guardiola wants a duo at the back who are good with their feet to implement his back to front approach which was successful during his time in charge at both Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
The Spaniard is close to signing Laporte with the club expected to agree a d al and activate the French defenders £39 million release clause but spending this amount will no deter the German from making a £45 million bid for Everton and England defender Stones.
With the club about to cut their losses and sell Eliaquim Mangala this summer and the amount of injuries sustained by captain Vincent Kompany over last season the club feel that youth is the way to go when looking a new signings and these two would certainly bring stability at the back for the two time Premier League winners.
