Guardiola reportedly confident as Man City prepare to launch £25m bid for key target

For the Man City fans, a few new defensive signings are key this summer…

Despite the recent captures of both Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy, there is still a gap in the heart of the Citizens’ defence.

The likes of Nicholas Otamendi and John Stones have proven themselves unreliable, whilst Vincent Kompany’s injury record speaks for itself, and so it’s clear that securing a bit of extra cover is important.

Fortunately, Pep Guardiola is said to be ‘confident’ that he’ll get what he’s after, with the Daily Star reporting that the Citizens are closing in on a £25 million move for West Brom defender Jonny Evans.

Though not often mentioned alongside the likes of Kompany, Mendy and Walker when discussing top defenders, Evans is undoubtedly one of the Premier League’s most consistent centre-halves.

With Man City set to take part in a number of competitions this season, Guardiola needs competition for places, and Evans will certainly provide it. The pressure will be on this season, and so the Spaniard needs all the help that he can get.

Landlord’s Verdict

Jonny Evans has a number of Premier League winners’ medals in his closet, and so there is no doubting his quality.

He has really come of age since moving to West Brom, and he’ll undoubtedly do a solid job should he move to the Etihad.

The Northern Irishman lacks the flair of a player like Stones or Mendy, but what he does provide is solidity – and that is what Man City need right now.
