It has been a sensational season for the Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern. Pep Guardiola has got his side playing very well indeed, and since moving to the club, he has been able to sign some of Europe’s most talented players. The acquisitions of the likes of Kyle Walker and Bernardo Silva appear to have been the final pieces in his puzzle, and he looks on course to launch a stunning quest for the Premier League title this season.
Despite the quality involved, though, it doesn’t appear as though the Spaniard is entirely happy – with another player reportedly courting his interest. According to AS, Julian Weigl is interesting Pep Guardiola, with the manager said to be ‘in love’ with his quality. Significantly, a move could be on the cards soon as Weigl has reportedly been placed on Guardiola’s wishlist ahead of next summer.
At 22-years-old, Weigl is a player that is just finding his form and quality, and Borussia Dortmund has been a fantastic home for him over the last few years. He has made 4 appearances this season, picking up one goal in the process, and those numbers are only going to increase as the season progresses.
A deep-lying midfielder, he is an excellent passer of the ball, and his role typically involves spreading the play from defence to attack, making him the perfect player to sit in front of Man City’s defence.
He’s not at his peak yet, but Pep Guardiola’s tuition would undoubtedly make him a better player, and he’d fit in well amongst a group of incredibly talented passers.
Weigl won’t be an easy player to sign, but he would be worth the effort.
He’s not the complete package yet, but there is no telling just how influential a year or two alongside the likes of Ilkay Gundogan and Fernandinho could be.
The German would be a great option.
