Sunderland fans in the Transfer Tavern are wondering where their side would be this season without the exceptional displays of Jordan Pickford.
The Black Cats may be at the bottom of the pile in the Premier League at the moment but they could be well adrift from the likes of Swansea and Hull City were it not for some talismanic performances between the sticks.
Since coming in for Vito Mannone in August, the 23-year-old has made 62 saves in 17 Premier League appearances, albeit keeping just two clean sheets, despite recently enduring a spell on the sidelines due to injury.
Unfortunately, however, it appears Sunderland fans may have to ponder life without Pickford no longer, because it could well become a reality. Citing an unnamed source, ESPN claim the Stadium of Light outfit are expecting a bid from Manchester City during the next transfer window.
That has come to little surprise to fans of both clubs in the Tavern. Whilst Pickford’s form has been fantastic this season, the goalkeeping situation at the Etihad Stadium requires desperate attention in the summer.
Claudio Bravo’s move from Barcelona to the Premier League has been a disaster, whilst Joe Hart appears unlikely to return to his parent club following a loan spell at Torino and Willy Caballero’s contract expires at the end of the season.
