We here at the Football Transfer Tavern have spent the last few weeks seeing Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale linked with Real Madrid, yet the Daily Mail claim something entirely different is in the offing.
The winger has been nothing short of prolific this season and no one would deny that he has kept the Europa League dreams of Andre Villas-Boas and Spurs alive after his scintillating performance on Thursday against Lyon, bagging a free-kick brace.
Bale has long been on the radar of Real Madrid and given the fact that not only Cristiano Ronaldo’s future is in doubt, it is also election year for Florentino Perez and it is no surprise that the Spanish champions are heavily linked with one of the best players in Europe right now.
However in news that will not only worry Spurs fans but also Real Madrid ones, it seems that Pep Guardiola is set on coming back to haunt the club as he is now after Bale too. Given the earlier reports from the Daily Mail that Pep has a rumoured £240 million war chest to spend this summer when taking over at Bayern Munich, punters are expecting some major signings at the Allianz Arena.
What we did not expect was Gareth Bale being made a number one transfer target and Pep being willing to bid whatever it takes to land the Welsh wing wizard who when asked about his future claimed: “I’ve just got to keep my head down, keep working hard. I’ve still got a lot of room for improvement.”
