The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern aren’t sure that their squad could get much better. They’ve been unstoppable this season and at present, Pep Guardiola’s men look on course to secure the Premier League trophy with ease.
However, despite the success, it doesn’t seem as though Guardiola is quite finished building his squad. According to the Daily Star, a few players are on the Spaniard’s shopping list, and one player included on it is Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets.
Busquets linked up with the Barcelona first team in 2008, and since then he has gone on to build quite the reputation. Unanimously viewed as one of Europe’s best midfielders, the Spaniard is a defensive master, able to break up play and move it forward against some of the world’s best players with ease.
He, of course, improved drastically under Pep Guardiola when the Spanish boss was last at Barcelona, and so that connection between the pair is sure to have had an impact on this proposed move.
The Daily Star reports that the Spaniard is viewed as the ‘ideal’ replacement for Yaya Toure by the Man City brass, and so in that sense, a move – which could be around the £50 million mark – makes sense.
It’s not going to be easy to tempt him away from Spain, but with Guardiola at the helm and Man City’s form improving every week, anything is possible.
Busquets would be a fantastic signing for Man City. In terms of raw quality, there is arguably nobody better in Europe at playing his role.
Man City do lack that defensive edge, especially in comparison to their attack, and his arrival would certainly offset that somewhat.
That said, this is an audacious move, and it won’t be easy to land.
