The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for their side’s dominance to continue. Pep Guardiola’s men have been simply sensational this term, with another dominant win over Tottenham coming during the weekend. In truth, things are looking pretty close to perfect at the Etihad at present.
However, Pep Guardiola seemingly doesn’t see it that way, with the Spaniard reportedly already looking towards a few potential January acquisitions. According to Don Balon, one such player that he is looking at is Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic. Kovacic has had a hard time in la Liga this term, and he is still not a regular within Zinedine Zidane’s first team.
Undoubtedly one of Europe’s most talented midfielders, Kovacic’s lack of game time speaks more of Real Madrid’s quality, rather than his own lack thereof.
Rated at £22.5 million by Transfer Markt, Kovacic wouldn’t be a cheap signing, nor would he be a particularly easy player to bring in, but the spoils would be all Man City’s if they were to sign him.
A fantastic passer of the ball, he would fit in perfectly at the Etihad, with his hard work rate, excellent positioning, brilliant technical ability and consistency all likely to impress Pep Guardiola. For all of the Spaniard’s depth in midfield, he lacks much competition for Fernandinho, and Kovacic would certainly provide that.
Mateo Kovacic has been highly-rated for a few years now, yet he hasn’t really had much of a chance at Real Madrid.
Pep Guardiola would likely be able to offer him very regular game time, and so a move may appeal in that sense. Madrid won’t want to get rid of a player that they likely deem is crucial to their future though.
That being said, Man City have huge spending power – as we all know – and so anything could happen.
