The Daily Mirror is reporting that Bolton Wanderers’ ambitious move to bring Guti on loan for the rest of the season has been given a boost after the player rejected a move to Turkish side, Besiktas.
Real Madrid star Guti, 33, has emerged as a target for Gary Megson in recent days as he seeks to add quality to his squad as they prepare themselves for a relegation dogfight. Guti is free to leave Madrid after a ferocious row with the coach, Manuel Pellegrini, a couple of months ago. Guti has spent his entire career at the Bernabeu and has seen the arrival and departure of many great players. However his tenure in Madrid appears to be over and he has told his friends and family that he will leave the club in January after being disciplined earlier this season with a fine and a suspension.
Guti is likely to cost in the region of £2million in wages for half a season but Megson sees the experienced midfielder as worth the gamble. Besiktas’ offer was more lucrative but Guti will make his decision for footballing reasons rather than financial ones. He will receive glowing recommendations about the club and area from former teammates Fernando Hierro and Ivan Campo who both had spells with Bolton.
Though a deal is nowhere near completion, Megson is hopeful that Guti will be open to a move to the Reebok Stadium. His reluctance to move to Turkey and the allure of the Premier League may be enough to pave the way for Guti to to trade the all-white of Real Madrid to the all-white of Bolton Wanderers.
